The lagoon is almost cut off from the sea, with the flow of water controlled by a special sluice gate.<\/p>

In addition to salt production, the area is protected for its unique flora and fauna, such as the coastal dunes with the sea lily, as well as for the land turtles, which live there in the highest density in the world.<\/p>
